NUS PIANO ENSEMBLE

Founded in 1987, the NUS Piano Ensemble (NUSPE) began as a student group that focused on solo classical piano music. As time went by, we expanded our repertoire to include piano ensemble works, namely duos and duets, which now form our musical core. Today, as part of the NUS Centre For the Arts (CFA), NUSPE has grown into a dynamic and accomplished classical music group that actively contributes to the vibrancy of NUS’s arts scene.

Here at NUSPE, members are given the space and time to grow as musicians and performers in a diverse community of music lovers with an affinity for classical piano music. Members participate in weekly Performance Classes, which cover topics ranging from performance practice to music history. Above all, performance is at the heart of what we do, and members enjoy numerous opportunities to present a wide range of repertoires at our concerts held year-round. To prepare for these concerts, performers participate in sessions held by our Principal Tutor, Dr Choi Hye-Seon, with the assistance of our Student Music Directors (SMDs). Aside from classical piano music, we also experiment with diverse musical styles and art forms, even performing with other instruments.

Through our performances and activities, we aspire to pave the way forward for further exploration and development of piano ensemble music in the NUS community and beyond.
